Joseph Brown
Joe Brown began his career as a professional boxer. Sculpture was Brown's tribute to sport The struggle, pain and joy of physical exertion come alive in his boxers, baseball players. football players and other athletes. His twin callings - sports and sculpture - found full expression at Princeton University, where he served as a boxing instructor and a lecturer in creative arts with the rank of Professor and Sculpture in Residence.
While an apprentice and studio assistant to R. Tait McKenzie for seven years, Brown developed a unique style of realism. Whether one foot or 30 feet tall, his figures convey dynamic movement, muscles straining, sinews taut, all graceful, all realistic.
