What is Penn Doing?

Penn actively attempts to reduce its electricity consumption, but further reduces its environmental impact through the use of pollution-free wind power. Penn is now the largest institutional purchaser of wind power in the US.

Renewable Power

Penn experienced significant financial savings as a result of the extensive conservation efforts of staff during the summer months of 2001.

To thank Penn's employees and encourage future conservation, Penn committed to buy 20,000,000 kWh of pollution-free electricity generated by wind power annually in October of 2001.

On April 21, 2003, Penn announced it would double its wind power purchase to 40,000,000 kWh. The new contract will last until 2014 and will provide more than 10% of Penn's electricity needs.

The purchase of this pollution-free electricity , which costs more than traditional power, would not have been possible without our combined conservation efforts.
