Campus Greening

The University is home to numerous species of plants and trees that play important roles in balancing the effects of urban development and pollution. In the last few years, Penn has become very ambitious in transforming its environment into an urban arboretum. The planting of over 500 new trees since 2000 and a recently implemented tree-replacement policy will ensure the school’s growth won’t negatively impact its landscape.

Birds on Campus

Have you spotted an interesting bird on campus? Identify it and report to us! We will post info on bird sightings on Penn's campus. (environment@pobox.upenn.edu)

The red tailed hawk pictured on the left was hunting pigeons on College Green in front of the Fine Arts Library. An immature red-tailed hawk has also been seen hunting on college green. It is possible that these birds are nesting in Woodlands Cemetary.
