Compact Fluorescent Lightbulb Exchange
In 2001, Facilities Services, in partnership with the Penn
Environmental Group, began a compact fluorescent lightbulb (CFL)
exchange with residents of Penn's college houses. Residents
only needed to bring the incandescent lightbulbs being used
in their room to receive a free, energy efficient CFL. The CFL
program promotes energy conservation on campus, is a simple
and effective way to slow the rate of global climate change,
and saves Penn some money.
2002 Results:
2,100 Compact fluorescent lightbulbs exchanged
135,000 kWh of electricity savings
2001 Results:
1,800 Compact fluorescent lightbulbs exchanged
128,054 kWh of electricity savings
Penn CUPPS - "Can't
Use Paper Plastic
or Styrofoam"
This program is meant to reduce the quantity
of disposable cups that are used on campus. In the fall of
2002, PEG and Facilities gave out roughly 500 reusable mugs
to freshmen and upper classmen. Many local restaurants and
coffee shops offer discounts to students when they use their
CUPPS mug. Click
here for a list of restaurants and the discounts that
they offer.
