The University community takes great pride in the appearance of the campus. The University has to balance the need to draw attention to school and center special events against the need to preserve the beauty and serenity of our campus.

Design - Design Guidelines and Review of Campus Projects (PDF)
These guidelines outline the ways that new University buildings and spaces should contribute to the campus environment. They should be used by consulting architects, engineers, landscape architects, and other designers to ensure that their projects support to the Campus Development Plan. Also included is a description of the design review process that is used for projects that have a significant affect on the campus.

Design - Mechanical and Electrical Standard Design Guidelines
The Standard Design Guidelines have been prepared to guide the A/E team with the basis of the University's standard MEP design requirements, procedures, preferred systems, materials, utility operating characteristics, and energy available on campus. It is the A/E contractual requirement to follow the University of Pennsylvania Mechanical and Electrical Standard Design Guidelines.

Design - Products & Materials (Excel)
A Products & Materials, Excel worksheet for Architects & Contractors. As part of the closeout documentation for capital projects, this Products and Materials Summary spreadsheet is to be submitted with any required Operation and Maintenance Documentation, as directed by the University Project Manager. These forms can be modified as required for specific projects, but are to list manufacturers, equipment types and model numbers, finishes, and building components to facilitate minor repairs and alterations carried out by the University.

Design - Signage : Campus-Wide Exterior Signage Policy
In 2003, the University commenced a campus-wide signage replacement project. The design aesthetic is intended to unify all of the campus signage with an appropriate vocabulary for a premier 21st Century research and teaching institution.

F&RES - Confined Space Procedure (PDF)
The purpose of this procedure is to protect workers against the hazards involved in confined spaces. This procedure establishes the controls and responsibilities for entering, working in, and exiting confined spaces.

F&RES - Incident Investigation Procedure (PDF)
In an effort to better understand and hopefully circumvent the number of job related accidents-injury within the FRES Operations group effectively immediately, any incident involving safety (lost time, medical attention required, or just a close call) requires the supervisor in charge of the employee at the time of the incident to complete the attached FRES Incident Investigation Form.

F&RES - Lock Out / Tag Out (LOTO) Procedure (PDF)
The purpose of this policy is to ensure that before any employee or contractor performs any servicing or maintenance on machinery or euipment, where the unexpected energizing, start up or release of any type of energy could occur and cause injury, the machinery or equipment will be rendered safe to work on by being locked and tagged out.
