With excavation fully underway and approximately 20 percent of work completed, the design of Weiss Pavilion by Crawford Architects proposes an infill of the long arcade on the northern side of Franklin Field for a new expanded intercollegiate athletic weight training program, some retail, and a recreation fitness center for use by the Penn community.
It will inhabit the space of the arches on two levels and connect the interior concourse space under the stadium bleachers with the new east-west pedestrian promenade. Completion construction by Hunter Roberts is anticipated for Spring 2010 and a ceremonial groundbreaking of the $26.9 million project occurred on June 18th in conjunction with Trustee meetings and in honor of alumni donor and former Penn athlete, George Weiss, C’65.
Take a guided tour of the construction.
