A premier line up of food and beverage offerings is planned for the new food hall at 34th and Walnut Streets on the main campus of the University of Pennsylvania. Penn has assembled a line-up of critically acclaimed chefs and local best-in-class operators, including Goldie vegan falafel shop, Little Baby's Ice Cream, and the Juice Merchant fresh juices, smoothies and whips. This diverse menu of food options will satisfy meat eaters and vegans, organic juice lovers and ice-cream fans alike. Louie-Louie - the newest restaurant by Marty & Sydney Grims of Fearless Restaurants, will open in early 2018 on Penn’s campus, on the ground floor of the Hilton Inn at Penn. Renovations of the 4,200 square foot space at 3611 Walnut Street are ongoing with plans that include a fully redesigned interior, as well as an expanded outside seating area and new landscaping. Just Salad - Just Salad, a fast casual restaurant offering seasonal salads, wraps, grain bowls, and smoothies, will open a new location at the University of Pennsylvania in early 2018. With a lease signed for 3728 Spruce Street, Just Salad currently operates more than 30 locations worldwide, including New York City and Chicago. The new University City location will be Just Salad’s second in Philadelphia, in addition to the 1729 Chestnut Street store. Read more about the new University City location. 

United By Blue - an outdoor brand known for their responsible, durable goods – will open a newly expanded space in University City this winter. A lease has been signed for 3421 Walnut Street, adding approximately 1,655 sq. ft. adjacent to their existing store on campus. This newly expanded location will be complete with a full selection of the brand’s outdoor merchandise, along with improved traffic flow and new seating areas to allow for a busy café business.

Bernie’s Restaurant and Bar, a full-service, American-style, casual dining restaurant and bar, will open a location in University City at 3432 Sansom Street in Fall 2017. Bernie’s serves quality food and drinks in a cozy neighborhood setting, and plans for the new location include a fully redesigned interior, a cozy back deck with fire pits, and outside café seating. Bernie’s also operates two locations in southeastern PA, in Glenside and Hatboro.

Spread Bagelry will expand its retail presence in Philadelphia in a new location on  Penn’s campus at 3602 Chestnut Street. Spread, a Philadelphia-based eatery specializing in Montreal-style bagels, plans to open in Summer 2016.  Montreal-style bagels are artisanal, hand rolled bagels, boiled in honey water, then baked in custom wood-fired Montreal brick ovens. The bagelry will offer homemade seasonal spreads, and a diverse menu of signature sandwiches and specials.

A nail salon was added to the personal services available on the Penn campus when Luxe Nail Bar opened in August 2016. Luxe Nail Bar will offer a range of nail services and waxing at 212 South 40th Street, in the former Radio Shack space.
Stir-fry and salad specialist honeygrow has opened a new location in West Philadelphia on Penn’s campus (3731 Walnut St.). Located across from Wharton in the former Campus Copy space, honeygrow features local produce from several PA/NJ farms, freshly and locally made egg-white and whole-wheat noodles, and homemade sauces and dressings . As a Philly-born startup, honeygrow stays true to its roots and their “growing local” model by continuing to extend into new markets by working with local community groups, artists, musicians, health + wellness professionals and wholesome eating advocates.
Philadelphia-headquartered Saxby's Coffee has re-opened a totally renovated location at Penn at 4000 Locust Street. This location of Saxby's has increased seating, custom millwork, and a gallery space to be curated by Penn fine-arts students. The company has unveiled a "Philly Snack Box," featuring local products including Nuts About Granola, Mavuno Harvest dried fruit, Lawless Jerky, and a cobranded chocolate bar from Tradestone Confectioner’s made with Saxbys ground espresso beans, which will be exclusively available at Saxbys UPenn and select Center City Saxbys cafés.

 

 

The popular Philly Pretzel Factory has moved into 3734 Spruce Street, along with Philly is Nuts! featuring bulk candy, chocolate, nuts, and dried fruit. Philly Pretzel Factory customers can enjoy the usual array of fresh-baked Philly-style soft pretzels, pretzel hotdogs, pretzel sausages, and pretzel bites.  Visit phillypretzelfactory.com.
United By Blue Coffeehouse and Clothier (3421 Walnut Street) is a Philadelphia-based outdoor lifestyle brand, focused on sustainability.
